The Mid-Ohio River Valley Woody Biomass Feedstock Zone project is a collaborative effort of the the WV Division of Forestry, the OH Division of Forestry, and the Appalachian Hardwood Center at West Virginia University. Together we are working to develop excellent estimates of woody biomass quantity and availability and organize the woody biomass supply chain to confidently supply large quantities of biomass to new, green bioenergy projects. We will be focusing our efforts to an areas centered around the Ohio River as the proximity to the river allows for clustering of energy intensive industry, easy of transporting large quantities of biomass, and a large wood manufacturing industry and forest land base.
This project has four primary components:
- Hardwood Processing Byproducts Assessment
- Urban Wood Residues Assessment
- Logging Residue Assessment
- Industry Capacity and Willingness to Market
This project is generously supported through the Northeastern Area State and Private Forestry Competitive Grant program at the USDA Forest Service (website) Please address any questions or comments to project manager,
